CONTRIBUTION

In accordance with our experience of visiting not only the amazing nature but of living with our good friends on this island, we have identified the true environmental and social problem that has been provoking in the archipelago. The purpose is to find a better way to encourage the people of Galapagos to be self-sufficient to protect and coexist with wildlife. But remember, this important task is not only for the people who live in Galapagos, also for the Ecuadorian and why not the rest of the world.

The work seems to be quite difficult and unattainable, so it is very important to gradually come to the importance of preserving and making them feel and see that they are living in one of the most wonderful and amazing nature that this planet has. Below we present the projects we carry out with charitable organizations in Japan.

PROJECTS

Reforestation Project

There are four islands inhabited in the Galapagos archipelago, being the island of Santa Cruz the most populated.

In Galapagos there are 4 islands where people lived. The most crowded is the island of Santa Cruz and therefore have more problems of invasive species. Here you can find one of the largest forests in Scalecia, this endemic species brings life to ¾ species on the island, making it vital to maintain the ecosystem. This was threatened by private lands, especially by agriculture that lost almost 80% of the forest in only 30 years.

The GCFJ (Galapagos Conservation Fund of Japan), with the help of important local institutes such as PNG (Galapagos National Park), CNG (Galapagos National College) and Rancho Primicias (private tourist site of giant tortoises) To contribute the works of the GNP and to encourage the young people to continue doing this important and indispensable work for the coexistence in the island.

Association of Coffee Growers of Santa Cruz

Around 1878 is where the first Arabic coffee bourbon plant seeds in the highlands of the island of San Cristobal. Surprisingly, this plant is more than 100 years old and still carries fruits. The volcanic soil rich in nutrients and their micro climates determined from the equatorial line and the numerous marine currents make this place a unique and great place to plant coffee. In the rest of the world, it has to be seed at least 1200 meters above sea level, in Galapagos plant in just 300 meters.

Regrettably, the negative impact of private land introduction species and the increasing demands for food due to tourism makes it so difficult to maintain control in these areas. It is for this reason that to reduce this impact we are working with the owners of the coffee plantations of Santa Cruz to find a way to achieve sustainable development in environmental terms. The idea is to open new markets so that they have a greater commercial incentive, so that they do not change to other activities that have a more negative impact like the one of the fishermen. According to the studies coffee is not an aggressive plant, which means that it has a very low impact, we are even encouraged to plant these plants with native or endemic plants as shade for each coffee plant.

Association of Cafecultores of Santa Cruz (Mr. Filemon Cueva)

Galapagos National School

The most populated island of all Galapagos is Santa Cruz Island, of which the number of children reaches up to 60%. This means that the number of workplaces is less than the number of children. It is therefore very important to achieve better environmental awareness training. Galapagos has a very short human history; However, the rapid flood of tourism has achieved unsustainable immigration in recent years.

That is why it is very important to be aware of and maintain this commitment to the people of Galapagos to instill the creation of their own culture, always considering that they lived in this fragile ecosystem. Such as promoting the art of Galapagos music with live presentation under the tutelage of Professor Gandy of GNC. In addition, support to the gastronomic section, where students can show their skills in front of tourists.
